Introduction to Russian: Lesson 22
One more reading rule:
Remember that in Russian, vowels sound differently when they are not stressed (their sounds are reduced).
If they are not the first or the last letter in the word, the Russian letters Е and Я both sound like the letter И when they are not stressed. This is the fourth rule of vowel reduction in Russian.
This is why in the word ТЕБЕ, only the stressed Е sounds like itself while the unstressed one sounds like И.
Это - тебе.
