Notice that the sound [l'] in this word is much softer than the English [l]. We will learn later why it happens. Meanwhile, let's learn to say the soft [l'] sound. Begin with saying the regular [l] as in lamp. Pay attention to the position of the tip of your tongue. To say the soft [l'] simply pull back your tongue a little and make sure that the tip and the middle of it touch or press against the palate (the roof of your mouth). Soft sounds are also called palatalized because you use your palate to make them.
